Electroceuticals

What are electroceuticals? These are electronic devices which can support your wellbeing. Talking therapy helps.

These are electronic devices which can support your wellbeing. Talking therapy helps. But you can also get an extra boost from electronic devices which tune into your body’s electrical impulses that flow in the brain and through your nervous system. Electroceuticals are designed to have a beneficial effect without the use of medication.

Alpha-Stim is a device which helps to rebalance mood and supports mental equilibrium. The Alpha-Stim AID can be used for anxiety, insomnia, and depression (that’s what AID stands for). The electrical waves generated by the device are transmitted through little clips which attach to each ear. The electrical pulses flow between each ear clip, passing through the brain. Don’t worry – they are at a very low intensity, but are strong enough to have a positive influence on your brain patterns. This is called CES (Cranial Electronic Stimulation).

You can alter the length of time the device is used, as well as the intensity of the electronic pulses.

In clinical trials, Alpha-Stim AID has given good results for depression and anxiety. This device is used within the NHS in the UK and can be privately prescribed by psychiatrists.

People with leg pain or swelling to the lower leg might also benefit from the Revitive electronic device which stimulates the lymphatic drainage system through small electronic pulses through placing the feet on the device (without socks). Its patented waveforms significantly increase oxygen-rich blood flow to the legs and feet, relieving aches and pains, reducing swelling in feet and ankles, allowing greater pain-free walking.   Electronic Muscle Stimulation can be applied through the foot pads or on other areas of the body to improve circulation.

Many people also suffer with chronic pain. There are also many devices which help with pain management, using electronic currents.

SCENAR is used by many physiotherapists to treat their patients. SCENAR devices are also available to purchase for personal use. The technology originated in Russia, using sub-cutaneous electrical impulses to boost the body’s natural healing mechanisms. This is applicable for muscle pain, joint pain, soft tissue damage. More information is available on the UK distributor’s website called SCENARworld.

Other pain management devices are also available, such as TENS. This stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. It basically means that electrical currents pass through the skin (transcutaneous action) to stimulate the nerves in the body into regulating the pain signals which flow to the brain’s pain receptors. This mechanism is by sticky pads called electrodes which are attached to the skin. There is more information here about how the NHS uses TENS.
